Summer Program 2007

Summer Playground Program
This is the city’s premier program that runs through the Fitchburg Recreation department. This program is open to all children under the age of 18 years old; but individuals under the age of six (6) must be accompanied by an adult/guardian at all times on the playground. * Special Education students are welcome with supervision*

The program runs Monday through Friday starting July 9th through August 17th! The hours for the program are 9:30 am -2:30 pm. NOTE: This is the a different starting date from previous years. If it rains, the program will not run for that specific day. (Check with Rec. Dept.)

Lunch is provided free of charge through the Department of Education along with Project Bread but the children must be at the playgrounds by 10:00 am to sign up for a lunch. The lunches are nutritious with all of the food groups being served each day.

Q: What activities go on at the playground program?
A: Each playground is asked to plan a daily sporting activity, such as kickball or capture the flag, and a daily craft activity to provide a wide variety for the children.

Q: Do parents need to provide anything for the kids?
A: Throughout the summer, the playground instructors might ask each child to bring in a specific object from home to use in the crafts or games. Most of the supplies are provided through the Recreation Department.

Q: How many playground instructors are there for each playground?
A: There are at least two playground instructors, certified in First Aid and CPR at each playground. The larger playgrounds will have three instructors.

Q: How do I sign my child up for the program?
A: Since this is a FREE program, we do not require that you pre-enroll your children. The program starts on June 27th.

Q: Is this a babysitting program?
A: No. The playground instructors are not a babysitting service. They will be at the playgrounds from 9:30 am – 2:30 pm. They also have the ability to ask problem children to leave because they are disrupting the group.
